Peter Rothstein – Artistic Director

Peter Rothstein was named one of the 2007 Minnesota’s Artists of the Year from the Star Tribune, the 2007 Theater Artist of the Year from Lavender Magazine, and City Pages’ Best Director of 2006. Recent work includes Private Lives for the Guthrie Theater, winning best production and best director of 2007 from the Star Tribune; All is Calm, a partnership with Theater Latté Da and Cantus; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Disney’s High School Musical and Blood Brothers for the Children’s Theater Company; Woman Before a Glass starring Sally Wingert for Minnesota Jewish Theater Company, and Once on this Island for Ten Thousand Things. Peter has been awarded grants and fellowships from the McKnight Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, Theater Communications Group and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Theater from St. John’s University and a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


I want to create theater that is mindful about how it intersects with a given community and the larger world. I champion stories that need to be told at this point in our history, and search for the most provocative way to tell that story to a contemporary audience. I believe theatre can be the most profound emotional, intellectual and visceral communal experience.
