Written & Performed by Milo Cramer
Directed by Morgan Green
New York Magazine’s choice for Best Play of 2023, a “completely wonderful” musical portrait of modern school life is “as riveting as it [is] sweetly funny.”
Directed by Morgan Green, this “extraordinary meditation on teaching and learning” is told in musical snapshots of individual teenagers. Solo writer-performer Milo Cramer, a former tutor, offers charming and keen observations of ten New York City students fighting to get into competitive schools. At its heart are questions about what’s really worth knowing and worth sacrificing in a system in which success seems so arbitrarily distributed.
Featuring solo writer-performer Milo Cramer.
With gratitude to our Production Partner Annette Atkins.
School Pictures runs 65 minutes with no intermission.
“Completely wonderful! Milo Cramer is gently riveting.”
“Refreshingly honest…Cramer is charming from start to finish, their songs are very hilarious, and the struggles of the young people depicted on stage are beautifully heartbreaking.”
“Cramer receives these children as they are, foregrounding their voices in all of their complexity and self-contradiction, their resistance and silence and honesty and delight, taking you where the opinion writer or cultural anthropologist can’t.”
