Theater Latté Da welcomes expressions of interest in joining our Board of Directors from any person who is excited to contribute meaningfully, actively, and enthusiastically to our future success and feels they can meet the Board Member Expectations below. Board members play a vital role at TLD, contributing time, talent, treasure and ideas to support the professional staff in carrying out an effective strategy and vision for the organization. They also serve as important community advocates for TLD.

In turn, Board members have the opportunity to meet terrific people, to learn, and to enjoy supporting the creation of transformative artistic experiences. Members of the Board of Directors may serve up to two consecutive three (3) year terms, after which a minimum of one (1) year must elapse before serving as Director again.

QUICK LINKS

To express interest in Board service at TLD, please email boardprospects@latteda.org with a brief summary of your interest and a bio, resume or CV to help us learn more about you and your background. If you are nominating someone else, please provide a brief overview of their background, contact information, and why you are excited to recommend them for the TLD Board. Nominations and expressions of interest should be received by February 15 in order to be considered for the next fiscal year (starting August 1).

About the Board Recruitment Process & Priorities

Board recruitment is led by the Governance Committee of the Board of Directors, with input and collaboration from TLD staff and the full Board. The Governance Committee works throughout the year to identify and evaluate potential candidates for Board positions. Candidates are identified through personal recommendations from Board, staff and other key stakeholders, as well as through direct expressions of interest from individuals with a passion for the work of the organization.

Among current recruitment priorities for new Board members for terms starting in Fiscal Year 2025 (August 1, 2024-July 31, 2025) are expertise in finance, real estate, and/or law, as well as future interest in leadership positions such as Officer roles or Committee Chairs. However, we encourage you to apply even if your background is strongest in other areas. TLD maintains a rolling list of Board prospects and may consider candidates over multiple years as priorities and needs evolve for both the organization and the individual.

A list of potential Board members is typically developed and prioritized in the months of January and February of each year. A call for recommendations is solicited from current Board and staff members, and candidates who self-nominate or are recommended by other stakeholders are considered as well. Governance committee members then schedule one-on-one conversations with key candidates to learn more about them, review expectations, and answer any questions. If the Board and the candidates both agree to move forward, candidates will be invited to attend a show if they have not previously done so, and will visit the Ritz Theater for a tour and meeting with Board and staff leadership. A final slate of candidates is presented to the Board for approval at our June meeting.

Board Member Expectations

  • Support Theater Latté Da’s commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) and in fostering a welcoming and supportive experience for staff, artists, Board and audience members.

  • Attend Board meetings, if possible in person (though a Zoom option is offered for almost all meetings). We typically have ten meetings per year.

  • Serve on at least one committee. Directors will work with Governance and the Executive Committee to identify Committee assignments. Most committees meet each month in which there is a full Board meeting.

  • Attend regular season shows, as well as the NEXT Festival of New Musicals.

  • Attend and/or financially support the Gala and other special events.

  • Support Development activities. This includes everything from inviting new audience members to shows, writing thank you notes to donors, attending or hosting donor events, connecting Theater Latté Da to new community partners, participating in major donor asks, or other activities to strengthen and expand our donor relationships.

Financial Participation

Theater Latté Da requires that all Board members make a personally significant annual financial contribution, understanding that the term “personally significant” may vary greatly based on individual circumstances. While TLD does not have a minimum “give or get” annual financial commitment for Board members, we do ask that you prioritize TLD as one of your top giving commitments:

  • Theater Latté Da is the beneficiary of grants and other funders which require we demonstrate that all Board members are donors

  • It is also a good message to internal and external stakeholders that all Board members have a strong stake in the success of the organization.

While appreciated, we will not consider in-kind donations of goods or services in lieu of an annual financial donation from Board members. However, if you choose to provide in-kind donations in addition to your annual financial donation, we will consider them as needed and in compliance with tax regulations and purchasing policies.
